Japanese ceramics conservator Koji Mayuyama introduces how he masterfully restores damaged wares, sometimes broken into countless shards. He will describe his techniques through three case studies: a 17th century polychrome Nabeshima large plate, a Satsuma tall vase from the Meiji Era, and a celadon vase from Southern Song China. Mayuyama will show some of his materials and explain how he is technically able to achieve the translucent surfaces of fired pottery generally impossible to recreate.
